MSc in Security Sector Management

Security sector management (SSM) is critical to good governance practices necessary to promote democratic security and sustainable development. In transitional societies - be it post-conflict, politically/economically restructuring, or institutional stabilising - changes to the way in which a state organises its national security priorities, and the relevant security actors and institutions, is key to regional peace and stability.

The course provides a foundation for management in this area and is geared towards addressing the wider security-development nexus. All modules will be compulsory: six for Postgraduate Certificate; a further six for a Postgraduate Diploma; followed by, for the award of MSc, a research project.

The course is the first of its kind in the world. The aim of the programme is to address the skillsets (and tools) to support more effective and efficient planning and implementation in support of security and development programmes.
