Afghans Aim to Take Control of Security by 2015 | 1st February

Afghanistan’s military and police should take control of national security within five years, a conference on the future of the country agreed today. Ministers at the London meeting pledged to help expand the Afghan National Army to 171,600 by October 2011 and the Afghan National Police to 134,000 by the same time, a statement said. More than 60 foreign ministers met top Afghan officials to approve a political strategy backing the U.S.-led troop surge. The talks were a show of support for Afghan President Hamid Karzai, while seeking to pave the way for foreign troops to come home as Europe and the U.S. tire of a war now in its ninth year...
