Is This Programme For You?

If you work in any security or development related organisation – as a policymaker or practitioner – or wish to enhance your knowledge and skills based on a relevant first degree, then this programme should be relevant to you.

Benefits of the Programme

A surge in the delivery of international aid programmes and increased calls for capacity-building to be at the heart of global security and development agenda has led to the need for new knowledge and skill-sets required to ‘operationalise’ policy. This course not only helps individuals to acquire those skill-sets but also enables them to apply such skills and knowledge to past and ongoing dilemmas faced by the global community in a range of transitional societies.

This expertise is critical to developing the capacity of both bilateral and multilateral responses to such global challenges, effectively informing policy on security and development and extracting thoughtful lessons from past experiences; lastly it offers individuals and organisations useful tools and methodologies for implementing complex programmes both at the strategic and operational level. This knowledge is key to an area which has enjoyed much conceptual and theoretical development but which has been slower at prescribing practical approaches to implementation.

Post-graduate education and training experiences in this field also support the increased ‘joined up’ activity of government departments, as well as practical measures to a combined subject areas, which – in the past – have been treated independently of each other.

From September 2007, Cranfield University will be offering a unique and innovative programme in Security Sector Management, in the form of a highly acclaimed Cranfield University Masters’ degree. The benefits of this programme are that you can…
